I met Margot Kidder twice at two different autograph conventions. The first time I met her I was the first person in line as she arrived.
She shed a few tears immediately when I presented this original poster from the late '70s to her.
Amazingly, it was the first time that she had ever seen the image.I bought it at a comic book store in Burbank just a few days prior to the convention-- it was their next to last copy of it. She requested that I give the name of the store to her agent. As she signed my things, he phoned them up and requested that they reserve it for her..
The second time I met her I asked her if she really hated Richard Lester, who replaced Richard Donner as director of Superman 2. It was rumored that she loved Donner and hated Lester's style, and she felt like he was forced out unfairly. "No, I LOVED Richard Lester AND Richard Donner." She described a deep conspiracy within the making of the film that involved major Hollywood studios, the mafia (literally the mafia) and their ties to each other and their favoritism toward Richard Lester. I actually believe every word that she said.
When she died today and I read that she was one of Carrie Fisher's close friends I wasn't slightly surprised because I had similar conversations with Carrie. There were no theatrics in my conversations with them, and they spoke from the heart. They were both real-ass women.
R.I.P.
