Trainspotting 2 Has Arrived


Trainspotting's (which I ranked at #39 on my list of "Top One Hundred Best Movies") sequel has arrived in the UK, and by most accounts it's a great film. It will hit theaters in America in March. It's currently at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. Much like its predecessor, its soundtrack is amazing, and it features music from Wolf Alice's "My Love is Cool," which was my album of the year for 2015.
I read "Porno" the sequel book on which it is loosely based almost exactly fifteen years ago. As much as I respect author Irvine Welsh, I must write that I'm glad that it's just loosely based on the book because it was a disappointment for me personally, and I didn't know how director Danny Boyle was going to craft a good sequel from that material. Fortunately, Boyle said himself that Porno "isn't a masterpiece as 'Trainspotting' was," so he has taken some creative license with the script.
