Why Mad Max: Fury Road is the Best Film of 2015.... So Far...
I'm not easily impressed by action films.
Recently I even worried that the age of the action star was coming to a close. Did anyone think that Vin Diesel, Jason Statham and The Rock were going to replace Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger? Please.
But Tom Hardy has renewed my faith that the genre will survive, thank god.
I might even include the female persuasion in the form of Charlize Therone to that mix if she had not stated her disinterest in reprising her role in "Max" in any possible sequels.
I've been turning this film over in my mind and wondering what sets it apart from crap such as last year's "Kingsman: Secret Service" and the Fast & Furious movies and other cartoonish action movies.
Realism.
Even the white-haired Vader guy seems plausible in such a world. Everything in it feels like it could actually happen, given a few futuristic boosts in technology. There was never a time when it just went off the rails and just seemed like I was watching a cartoon. It never felt like the CGI was just being vomited onto the frames just to gloss over the lack of a story.
I have now watched it three times, and I will probably watch it at least a few dozen more in my lifetime. I never would have imagined it as I entered the theater to watch it for the first time a few weeks ago.
