I have delayed describing my experience with police when I drove, ironically enough, to the "We the People" forum in Seattle because I moved recently.
Here I go:
When I was driving north to Seattle from Los Angeles on interstate 5 I was stopped by a pig because I was traveling 75 MPH in a 65 MPH zone.
If such a minor offense already seems beyond ridiculous to you, bear with me. It worsens.
He requested my id and proof of insurance. Then he returned to his car. I waited more than 15 minutes for backup to arrive. Then he returned to my car. He told me to sign the ciation. When I applied my signature to it he told me that my driver's license signature did not match it. I informed him that I signed my driver's license with an electronic pen, so of course I used a different style and it was blurred.
He proceeded to force me out of my car then forced me to walk more than 15 feet away from it. He frisked me. I was forced to spread my legs and arms while he prodded my ass and pockets. Then they began to search my car.
I said, "Wait. I want to remove something from it." They barred from returning to it. I told them that I wanted to remove my check book. The moron took almost ten minutes to search for my check book. He didn't find it, though it was on the top of my bag and easily visible to me when I returned to the car.
The idiots proceeded to search my wallet for proof of my identification. When I voiced... well, outrage... the fool who initially pulled me over told me that
wait for it
since 9/11 they have really "upped security."
They eventually found my social security card, which I signed some 8 years ago. The pig said, "that will do it." I was now free to leave. A search that should never have been conducted was now finalized, and the issuance of a ticket for a pathetically minor violation took almost one hour to complete.
"The land of the free?
Somebody lied."
-Prince.
