I'm fairly young, yet I suspect that even a 60 year old has never witnessed a failed running mate receive the sort of media exposure that Sarah Palin has received during the last year. I think that I wrote this a couple of months after Obama was inaugurated: she probably receives at least twice the amount of exposure that the actual vice president receives now.
Also, as I've written, I have nothing against Palin as a human being. She reminds me very much of the caring, polite Midwestern housewives I've met in my life. She is probably smarter than the last "president" (scary as it might seem).
But can we admit something about her to each other? If she were average looking, no one would give a fuck. You know it. I know it. As much as women like to gripe about "sexism," if she were a good looking man she would probably receive ten percent of the coverage she has now, and if she were an average looking or ugly man she wouldn't even be a blip on the media radar screen.
I think that I'm writing about this craze because yesterday I overheard two "tragically hip" types in Hollywood talk about her in a store's line. They weren't talking about her because they think her political stances are fascinating.
