My Annual 2010 Wrapup and Picks

This year was great for me, and I feel slightly guilty when I state that it was great because I know that for many Americans-- Louisianans in particular-- it was horrible. So I write it with a conscience.

I began my standup "career" just a few months ago, and just a few weeks ago the comic who followed me said, "that was fucking amazing. Wasn't that a great set, guys?" The whole room burst into applause. It was the happiest moment of my adult life. So, given the imbalanced nature of bad to good things that I have experienced during the course of my life, I expect to die soon in a freak accident that involves biological waste and a massive fire that starts slowly near my crotch then builds to bonfire-size and engulfs my whole body.

Now it's onto my annual picks in entertainment (the only subject that matters):

Best Movie:

I must go with INCEPTION on this one. Its only drawback is its replay factor. It loses a lot upon its second viewing-- at least to me. But in terms of originality, acting and just plain fucking coolness, this film is a winner. I would say that Black Swan is a close runner up.

Most Disappointing Movie:

It probably goes without saying that "Shutter Island" takes the cake in this category. It was my least favorite Scorsese movie since "Kundun."

Best Cinematic Performance:

Last year I chose a dark horse in Christian McKay as Orson Welles in "Me and Orson Welles." This year I'm going to go with a favorite and lock for an Oscar: Natalie Portman in Black Swan. If you haven't watched that movie I can't recommend it enough. Anything that can cause a heterosexual man (me) to be blown away by a ballet movie is a work of genius. I don't even believe that Portman is a good actress, but as John Lennon said about music, everyone has at least one hit song in them.

Best Album:

If you haven't bought it, buy it. "White Flag" is its only weak spot.

Best Song:

I'm going to go with my favorite indie artist on this one. Listen/buy "Satellite" by Lelia Broussard. Help a sister out.
