Retiring the Label

For a long time I had the title "Just Another Goddamn Midwestern White Boy in Los Angeles" above my cartoon picture.
It was based on something that Janeane Garofalo said when she still had her Air America Radio show: "Show business used to be run by sophisticated east coast Jews. Now it's just these damn midwestern white boys." I was amused by how spitefully she said "midwestern white boys," and make no doubt about it: she is an elitist. I pinned the label to myself in many chat rooms.
But I have lived on the west coast for five years now, and although I love Michigan and most of the NORTHERN Midwest, I think that it's time to retire that label.
