U2 = Oasis

Rolling Stone praised U2's new "No Line on the Horizon" album as "their best since 'Auchtung Baby.'" Well, it's not even their best since "All that You Can't Leave Behind." That's right: I believe that "AtYCLB" and "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" are better than "No Line." "No Line" is good, but it's representative of U2's trend since it released "Auchtung Baby." They make consistently good yet dull albums that lose their appeal after one or two listens.

U2 is a much more hyped version of Oasis. U2 will probably never top "Joshua Tree" and "Auchtung Baby;" Oasis will probably never top "What's the Story Morning Glory?" and "Definitely Maybe." Both bands will continue to produce good albums and remain "legendary," yet the albums that they have made since the mid-'90s are pedestrian and uninventive.
