Myths

Democrats often focus on Reagan's supposed myths. It's time to focus on Bill Clinton's myths.

During his wife's campaign he has almost singlehandedly derailed her. He has committed so many amateurish errors that people are wondering seriously if he is sabotaging her.

I submit to you that his abilities were nonexistent. Maybe when Clinton was running against a doddering old fool such as Bob Dole he seemed as if he was a campaigning master. Maybe when the tech boom gave approval ratings in the 70s to him he was "the political Elvis." Maybe when he said a simple platitude such as "I feel your pain" to people during an economic recession he seemed as if he was a demigod (the most common complaint about John Kerry: "I didn't 'FEEL' him").

But his recent string of blatant lies and outrageous statements have cemented in my mind that Clinton was an average politician who presided over a boom time. Certainly he was much smarter and more talented than the monkey who currently holds office (very small praise, actually). Certainly he was better than the two men he defeated during '92 and '96. However, he does not rank and will never rank as one of the best presidents ever. In fact, his legacy continues to diminish with each passing year.

Oh, what a difference eight years make.
